Although these techniques were originally researched in context of students with special needs, they are useful and transferrable to students of all types. Indeed, while learning about positive interventions to use with learning disabled students, we realized that the learning aids are helpful to ALL students- for example, visual aids, organization tools, and praise for good efforts and good work.
Recognizing the unique needs of all students, even in a mainstream classroom, is a challenge to a teacher, but is vital to happy, stimulating, and effective learning. Every student, of every age, enjoys and needs to feel valued and validated as an individual. One of the many daily roles of a teacher is to identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student and cater to them- academically, socially, and emotionally. Each of the tools and techniques in this “toolbox” were researched and studied with different types of students, and I think can be adapted to suit and assist students of various learning profiles.
